Besides access to the campus's computing labs at Phelps Hall, students can make use of the following facilities and resources offered by the English Department. (Note: "Transcriptions" is the overall initiative in Literature and Culture of Information that supervises the LCI specialization and its resources.)
  • South Hall 1415 Classroom (assigned classroom for English 194). This classroom features some loaner laptops and live network ports (but no wireless).

  • Transcriptions Computing Studio (South Hall 2509). The studio is open to undergraduates in Spring quarter during the following drop-in support hours (when a Transcriptions TA will staff the room and be available for help):
    • Mon 12:30 - 4:30
    • Wed 2:30 - 6:30
    • Thu 12:30 - 4:30
    • (and by appointment)

Transcriptions TA

  • The Transcriptions TA for Spring 2006 is Kim Knight (kimberly_knight@umail dot ucsb dot edu). She will keep regular drop-in consultation hours in the Transcriptions studio (South Hall 1509). (See hours above.) Kim's own research is in the area of new media, cyberculture, and literature; she is experienced at guiding students who are new to web authoring; and she is also familiar with the MediaWiki system that our course is using to create its class web site.
