The term intellectual property refers to creations of the mind including inventions, works of art, and any designs or symbols used in business. Intellectual property is really a blanket term covering both industrial property and geographic inventions/discoveries and copyright which includes artistic works like music, sculpture, photographs and any performace or broadcast recorded in any medium by the performance artist.
Intellectual property also refers to the intangible ideas of human creativity which one exercises legal control over. Intangible is described as being something that cannot be held or touched. It covers books, designs, movies, paintings and even business secrets and industrial concepts. Intellectual property is defined by the way it is protected with copyright, trademark, patents, etc.
