History

McDonald's has been a highly influentail fast-food business since 1940. It was first opened by Dick and Mac McDonald, who were siblings. On May 15, 1940, they established the first restaurant on Route 66. It became a popular hang out for many young people, and Mac and Dick were beginning to see their success. In 1948, the "Speedee Service System" was an innovative (see innovation) that created an assembly line for preparing hamburgers. This was only the beginning of the fast-food phenomenon in the US. Then, in 1953, the brothers franchise their business and open a second restaurant in Pheonix, Arizona. Other restaurants such as Taco Bell and Burger King began to open after becoming inspired by the McDonald brothers booming business. Ray Kroc founds "McDonald's Systems, Inc." in 1955. Throughout the 1970's, many additions such as the Happy Meal, the Quarter Pounder, Chicken McNuggets, and the drive-thru were made. Throughout the 1980's and 1990's, McDonald's gained popularity through these new innovative strategies.

Today, McDonald's is still one of the most popular fast-food chains. They continue to open new restaurants around the world, and their popularity continues to grow.
