In art history, Salon was the annual exhibition of the work of living artists hosted by the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, originally in the Salon d'Appolon in the Louvre in 1667. More generally, a salon is a physical space, an establishment, where hairdressers, beauticians, artists, and couturiers work.
