MySpace.com

MySpace.com, a social networking website, is one of many of its kind. Part of the Internet cultural phenomenon MySpace.com is the 4th most trafficked website in the United States according to Alexa.com.

MySpace is free to use but requires registration for users to use all of the features which include creating a user profile, uploading a limited amount of digital photographs, adding music, music videos and miscellaneous videos. Each profile template is the same but can be easily manipulated with MySpace Editors that generate code for changing the background color, font color and size and the plain format of the original template.

Users come together on MySpace to communicate with one another. Friends can reunite or find new friends. There is even the option to browse several thousand musical band profiles. With MySpace.com users come together to socialize. While the creativity aspect might outweigh the collaboration (see Collaboration defined) aspect on this particular networking site users, possibly with realizing it, are creating a collaborative space. While it is called MySpace because each user has their own space it could very easily be called OurSpace. The constant use of the comment space makes the site collaborative (see Collaboration defined) . There exists a space on the main page of a user profile. More exist where the user’s photos are located as well as in the blog space. This is where other users can comment and share their own ideas or opinions on any topic imaginable. There are also group communities that users can join and shares ideas and opinions on similar interests.
