Trademark

A simple dictionary definition: a name, symbol or other device identifying a product officially registered and legally restricted to the use of the owner or manufacturer of the item.

To obtain exclusive rights to a certain product, one has to register the "trademark" or identifying property of that product with the proper agency depending on the country it originates in. Certain rights are given to someone or a company who has a "sufficient use" of that trademark, but registering the trademark internationally helps to defend that right legally.
