Our project will retell the story of "The Gold-Bug" in hypertext form. The viewer will take the place of Legrand and reenact (following our textual cues) Legrand's journey to find and unearth Captain Kidd's buried treasure. Images created using WordsEye will accompany each page.



Intro: Flash Animation Opens into website

A. Scene: The Coast of the Mainland (There is an abandoned boat on the shore)

  • 1. The bug bites Legrand
  • 2. Jupiter wraps bug in parchment
  • 3. They return to Legrand's home

B. Scene: Legrand's home

  • 1. Legrand realizes connection between bug and skull
  • 2. Legrand cleans parchment and uncovers cipher
  • 3. They decide to go in search of the treasure

C. Scene: At Bessop's Castle (As each step in the treasure hunt takes place, the cipher will begin to solve itself)

  • 1. Legrand at the castle
  • 2. Legrand on rock - looks through telescope
  • 3. Vision of Tree
  • 4. They go to tree

D. Scene: At the Tree

  • 1. Jupiter climbs tree
  • 2. Drops bug through skull
  • 3. Follow line
  • 4. Dig up chest
  • 5. View of inside of chest
