"Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger

Catcher in the Rye

Why Catcher?

We chose Catcher in the Rye because on one level or another, anyone and everyone can relate to Holden. Whether you fear “the axe” because you’re failing three-fourths of your classes, or simply because you feel you don’t fit in, his trials and tribulations are rather ordinary and therefore shared in by many. We felt that as complicated and misunderstood as Holden's (attempted) rite of passage is, it is nonetheless simple and comprehendible. Thus we concluded that Catcher in the Rye is the best template we could most effectively modify and (re)represent within our medium.

Initial Brainstorming for the Project

  • Structure
  • Google Earth Zoom in
    • to New York
    • to Holden's head
    • to the opening image
  • Opening image
    • Collage of images
      • Ch. 11 images, i.e. chess board
      • images from the whole book
  • Interactive
    • Each interactive choice will be a choice between two jaggedly placed pictures. For example, Holden walks into the bar, and the choices will pop up and allow you to choose between a picture of a drink or a picture of a girl or a picture of the bar.
    • Storyboarding will take place outside of the wiki.
    • Closing image[s]
  • Text/Audio
    • decide what section of text to use
    • rewrite the text
    • find the voice
    • capture it
  • Pictures
    • Decide on what images to use
    • Among others, use Sheela's picture of New York in the rain
    • capture the pieces
    • photoshop them together
  • Sample
